Chris Cornell, a key architect of grunge and the explosive vocalist who fronted both Soundgarden and Audioslave, died on May 17, two days before Soundgarden was to headline the opening night of Rock On The Range, the annual festival of rock and metal in Columbus, Ohio. A tribute to Cornell took place instead that night, and throughout the weekend participants saluted the singer’s artistic impact. Vevo was at the fest all weekend, interviewing artists such as Primus, Papa Roach and The Offspring about their own music, but along the way several chats turned to Cornell and his accomplishments. Members of Stone Sour, Korn, Taking Back Sunday, and Dillinger Escape Plan, along with Gavin Rossdale of Bush, had key thoughts to share. Here are a few.
